Many people consider Eurodyssey as one of the best experiences they have ever lived

29 Mar 2010

Young people from different parts of Europe come every year to the islands to live an experience that many qualify to be one of the best in their life.

The year 1985 was to the United Nations, the world’s year of Youth. In the film, Steven Spielberg showed the movie "The Colour Purple"; scientists expected the visit of Halley's Comet and in Europe, a traineeship program that allowed young people to have a work experience outside its borders was created: the Eurodyssey, a program of the Assembly of European Regions.

According to Rui Bettencourt, with this program there are many youngsters who then stay in the Azores.

Young people from different parts of Europe come every year to the islands to live an experience that many qualify to be one of the best in their life.

The professional development, the vital experiences, and even the beauty of the islands, are some of the reasons that cause these young interns to stay longer in the Azores after completing the Eurodyssey traineeship. Marc Rodriguez, Barcelona, is a young man who attended the program in 2008. São Miguel has been his home for some years and where he currently works.

Moreover, the Eurodyssey is a program for the youngsters to do internships in Europe and be able to enter the labour market. Miguel Abrantes is participating in this European traineeship in France, in the field of architecture and, so far, it has been a good experience.

Marc Rodriguez discovered the Azores by Eurodyssey, while Miguel Abrantes has chosen France to live these months. The same program, but surely two different experiences, and like those two youngsters, many more young people accumulate experiences during these 25 years of Eurodyssey.
